There were 8 people that bought about 700 lbs. of chum salmon. $10.00 a fish @ about 10 lb. average. Only one person from Transition, Cathy, participated. The rest were friends that I contacted by phone. I am a commercial fisherman and have contacts in the industry. Because of the short notice, when seafood is available , people have to pick up the fish at a set time. This is hard for many to understand. The boat comes , delivers, and leaves in a few hours. I am not the middleman. Just the organizer and have no storage facilities, other than my personal freezer. Other species could be bought, directly from fishermen, if more interest was shown.
I am organizing the Earth Day Festival this year in Ganges -- Sunday April 22nd -- and am really hoping Transition will have a booth/ display there. I see from a previous message that you worked on the Fall Fair booth....can I rope you into an Earth Day booth as well? :)
I would LOVE to have some examples of solar panels, microhydro, EV cars, etc. at the Festival as well, so people can really see these tools of change. Would you have any leads or ideas around that? Thanks!
